Subtle Ways to Decorate Your Outdoor Space with Red, White, and Blue

The days are getting warmer and the nights are getting longer. Summer is here, and with that comes all the patriotic summer holidays and decor. The colors red, white, and blue seem straightforward enough to decorate with any time of year, but they can easily be overdone.

Below are some tips on how you can add touches of one of our favorite looks — rustic Americana (think deep reds paired with cool navy tones, burlap textures, and galvanized tin) — in a subtle, pulled-together way.

Fresh flowers and bountiful plants are everywhere this time of year. Embrace the blooms and use them to add red, white, and blue into your space — these natural elements will help bring your space to life.

Bonus: if bright redbuds and white vases aren’t enough for you, try sticking a few mini American flags into your planters for extra patriotic cuteness.

Color and Comfort

Adding a mix of red, white, and blue pillows and cushions is a simple way to decorate your space. Using cushions and pillows as accessories will help add a nice pop of color and texture, while also creating a more cozy space for your friends and family to enjoy.

POLYWOOD offers an array of outdoor throw pillows made with all-weather performance fabrics. With over many throw pillow fabrics to choose from and a variety of sizes, to achieve a rustic Americana look we recommend blending Silver Garnet, Natural Linen, and Marine Indigo pillows together. Our 16″ Outdoor Throw Pillow is the perfect size pillow no matter what furniture style you have in your space.

All-Weather Furniture

A fun (and functional!) way to decorate using red, white, and blue in your outdoor space is with all-weather furniture. Keep cool this summer by swaying in the comfort of a porch swing or rocking chair  — shop our front porch and patio furniture to find the perfect piece for your space.

Long Island Side Tables

Side tables are the perfect accessory whether you enjoy Adirondack or rocking chairs. Not only are they a great spot to place your ice-cold lemonade, but they also make for a great plant stand. Try layering different heights of side tables together to add dimension to your space.

You can’t go wrong with classic white furniture, but if you want more of a color pop we offer a variety of lumber colors and finishes to complete your red, white, and blue decorated space.

Star-Spangled Snacktime

Once you get your space decorated, it’s time to have guests over to entertain! Luckily, you can carry over the red, white, and blue color palette into the food and drinks you serve to your friends and family.

Cool off with a classic summertime beverage, ice-cold lemonade — simply fill a pitcher, place on a side table, and let your guests help themselves to this refreshing drink. If you need more of an afternoon boost, try serving glass bottled sodas in a galvanized tin bucket filled with ice.

Put a patriotic twist on a classic cheeseboard by cutting slices of cheese with a star-shaped cookie cutter, and serve fresh berries and cherries alongside colored ramekins.

If you have a sweet tooth, try using leftover blackberries and raspberries as garnishes for little brownie bites. The richness from the brownies paired with the tart berries will surely cure any sweet cravings.
