We’ve all seen the mismatched teacups, mugs, and various ceramic items at second-hand shops and neighborhood garage sales. Most of us aren’t looking for an eclectic mix of tableware, so it’s not likely that these items will find a home… unless they can be repurposed into something new.
All you need for this eco-friendly party favor is:
- an assortment of unique “pots”
- cactus blend potting mix
- small rocks
STEP 1: Find some items to reuse as your “pots”. I took a trip to our local second-hand shop and chose smaller cup shapes and washed them up.
Tip: avoid using glass for planting as it doesn’t allow your succulents to receive enough airflow, which could lead to overwatering. Terra cotta and glazed ceramic items are best!
STEP 2: Layer the bottom of each cup with a few stones to allow for drainage; I grabbed some rocks right outside the POLYWOOD offices.
Add in a layer of cactus blend potting mix from the local hardware store.
Place your succulent on top and surround with a bit more potting mix.
Water each freshly potted succulent just until the soil is wet. Then group together for your party guests to choose their favorite.
Overall, this project was so simple and I absolutely love how each one turned out. Not only do you repurpose items that needed a home, but you also create unique party favors to impress friends and family.
FREE PRINTABLE: Print these custom favor tags for your party guests so they can keep their new plant thriving. Our tags are shown printed on kraft paper for a more earthy feel, but they look great on white as well. DOWNLOAD TAGS
