We sat down with Shayla for a casual Q&A — learn more about how this collection came to be and get an exclusive look at all 17 new patterns created for the Shayla Copas Fabric Collection by POLYWOOD below.
What gravitated you to partnering with POLYWOOD?
I started working with POLYWOOD a couple of years ago when they first invited me to visit their headquarters and manufacturing facilities. I fell in love with the product, the company, and their people. From the moment I arrived, I felt like I had joined the POLYWOOD family and created a relationship that will last a lifetime.
POLYWOOD is a leader in outdoor furniture design and sustainability. As a designer, it’s important to me that I partner with manufacturers that offer a variety of styles for consumers and POLYWOOD does just that. After that first visit, they asked me to be one of their Design Ambassadors and I have loved representing their brand and products. After we had worked together a while, they approached me about a fabric collection; they thought that my love for patterns and color would be a great addition to their all-weather performance fabric offerings.
We then started communicating with Revolution Performance Fabrics and soon toured their factory where I was able to see first-hand how they manufacture their textiles. It was then that I realized that Shayla Copas Interiors, POLYWOOD, and Revolution would make the perfect trio for this exciting new venture.
The fabrics in this collection are of your own original creation. Where did you gather inspiration for the patterns?
Nature and color were definitely my main factors when I started working on this collection. My love for travel will also be noticed in the safari prints and in a few other surprising patterns. I love patterns and am not afraid to use them, but I also love creating a classic look. The patterns in this collection combine classic colors with a fresh vibe.
What fresh, new colors can we expect to see added to the POLYWOOD line?
The Shayla Copas Fabric Collection brings bright, bold colors that will add a touch of sophistication to your outdoor space from youthful corals to soft, pistachio greens, and timeless shades of blue.
Do you have any design advice for POLYWOOD customers on how to incorporate your patterns into their outdoor space?
In my work, I’ve noticed that people fear patterns and become nervous about mixing them, but I love introducing people to how to layer patterns. Start by placing tighter patterns with larger print patterns and layering them on top of each other while also making sure to include a coordinating solid fabric! That’s why this collection offers so many different patterns to encourage our consumers to be comfortable with mixing different patterns and colors.
This collaboration is going to be something that changes outdoor living, it just will. It’s going to change the way that all of our customers look at sophisticated fabrics and outdoor spaces and I’m excited that POLYWOOD and Revolution Performance Fabrics are bringing it to the forefront.
