Employee Q&A

Every once in a while, Amanda and I travel outside our dark marketing corner (we like to work in the dark) and talk with employees throughout different departments to discuss what they like about working at POLYWOOD, what they love in life, etc. It’s basically a shortened version of our Coffee Break posts.

Amanda shoots the photos and I ask the questions.

If only we could interview Poly. (That’s Amanda’s head, by the way.)

We hope it gives you a little insight into the excellent people we have working here at POLYWOOD.

How would you describe your role?

In basketball terms I am the sixth man. Not necessarily a household name, but I get the job done when the opportunity presents itself.

What’s your favorite thing about working at POLYWOOD?

The opportunities to learn. I’m a hands-on learner in every aspect of the phrase. I thrive in an environment that gives me that sort of option.

What do you absolutely love in your life?

• I love to cook. Never by the recipe but just make it up as I go. Doesn’t always turn out ‘right’, but it’s relaxing.

• I enjoy reading even though I don’t seem to have the time to do it anymore.

• I love the lake. Nothing better than a cold drink with your toes dipped in the water.

• And if co-workers haven’t noticed already, I love science fiction.

Have you ever played a prank on anyone at work?

I will just say that you should not attempt to scare Jenni Owens. You will regret it.

What’s your favorite thing about working for POLYWOOD?

That we’re growing so fast — crazy to think that we’ll double in size in the next three years.

Describe your typical day.

I have the easiest job here, supervising our powder coating group. We hang bare aluminum furniture parts on the line, they’re washed and dried, receive a coat of primer and then a color coat, go through a curing/drying process, a quality check, and then they’re packed. From start to finish, this process takes around two hours. I love the powder coating industry.

What do you absolutely love in your life?

• Living in Tucsan, AZ (where I’m from). 70 something degrees in February is not too shabby.  I miss the mountains, the food, and the Old West history, but still wear my cowboy boots and hats with every chance I get here.

• Family

• Collecting The Beatles memorabilia (unused 60’s album slicks, promotional items, autographs of them and friends, etc.)  Does anyone have items of interest for sale? I enjoy listening to Beatles songs, trying to hear a note or background sound that I haven’t heard before.

• My Newfoundland, Wilson the Wonder Dog. Our 170-pound baby.

What, in your eyes, sets POLYWOOD apart?

Our desire to do everything we can in-house and that we train our people to do their job, certify them, then pay them more to do their job better!

Have you ever played a prank on anyone at work? If so, what was it?

Yes…no comment. 🙂

What’s your favorite thing about working for POLYWOOD?

POLYWOOD recognizes when you’re working hard and doing a good job.

How would you describe your position?

I keep the assembly crew going with the hardware they need.

What do you absolutely love in your life?

• Family. I have three kids, ages 18, 14, and 12.

• The outdoors. My family and I love spending time at the beach, walking around farmers markets, flea markets and swap meets, and going for walks together.

• I love cooking a big Sunday dinner and inviting the family over. I also LOVE cooking breakfast food — my kids love it especially on the weekends!

What makes POLYWOOD unique?

Compared to other manufacturing facilities and past positions I’ve held, POLYWOOD treats all of their employees with respect.

Have you ever played a prank on anyone at work? If so, what was it?

One year on April Fools Day, I texted the crew that I was sick and wasn’t coming in. They may have freaked out a little bit.

So, that’s a little bit about us.  Interested in working at POLYWOOD? We’d love to hear from you!
