I recently sat down for a
Coffee Tea Break with our General Manager, Ross Munn. If you hear a group of people laughing, you’re likely to find Ross among them. He has an infectious sense of humor and is definitely an all-around
How long have you been a part of the POLYWOOD family?
How would you describe your role?
I lead of group of incredibly talented men and women who work together to ensure that a quality product gets built and shipped out on time, while keeping our financial house in order.
You’re not a coffee drinker anymore, right?
Yeah, I haven’t had a cup since April 2015.
I was up to about eight to 10 cups a day and started drinking tea instead — only 20 percent of the caffeine and I’m still wired most the time.
Are you from Indiana originally?
I’m actually from Nebraska. We moved to Indiana in 2001.
What was your first professional job and what was your biggest takeaway?
I was an accountant at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. I found that big corporations are boring.
What’s your favorite item on your desk?
My fan. When you weigh as much as I do, a good desk fan is your friend. Don’t tell anyone but sometimes I even oscillate.
What’s your favorite POLYWOOD piece in your backyard?
The original Big Daddy, now called The Ultimate. I love the pull-out ottoman.
What are you most excited about when you get up in the morning and head into work?
I love my job. Sometimes I get excited on Saturday mornings then I realize it’s the weekend… what a downer.
What are you most proud of in your life thus far?
Five kids who love Jesus.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An auto body repairman, but my mom tricked me into going into accounting.
How do you unwind after work?
An adult beverage and Netflix.
What are you watching?
Currently, Criminal Minds. I usually get stuck on one show for several weeks, watching it all the way through, then I’m on to the next one.
What would you sing at karaoke?
BG’s “Too Much Heaven”. I can sing a few bars if you would like.
If you were on an island and could only bring three things, what would you bring?
My wife and two coronas.
Who is your role model?
Michael Scott. No one does it better.
Where is your dream vacation spot?
I love south Florida in the winter — lots of sun and no earthquakes.
How does POLYWOOD inspire you?
Thanks to Ross for talking with me (and for taking a photo with your fan!).
If you have a POLYWOOD employee you’d like me to interview next, let me know in the comments. Until next time, enjoy your coffee (and tea) breaks.
