It’s a good piece of

"It’s a good piece of furniture for our smallish porch, and we will certainly appreciate it as the years go by and we don’t have to refinish it! We never did find the video for help constructing it! Perhaps our fault? And one small piece of advice: have a towel ready for after the rain: the rain doesn’t evaporate as quickly as it does on wood. That it’s made of recycled plastics is wonderful!"

"Glider is great…enjoying it. Very disappointed in the glider seat cushion…very poorly constructed…not worth the amount of money I spent for it!! So ordered back cushions from another company and much better quality and less expensive!"

The bench is nice but

"The bench is nice but we did not receive all of the hardware with the unit. Now I have to have the handyman come back and finish the installation process to make it a glider. A little disappointing ☹️☹️☹️☹️"

Q&A

We are looking at having an engraved plaque installed on the back or top of the back. Can you provide me with the dimensions of the top back slat?
Hello Donna, Great question! The head piece back slat for the Traditional Garden 48" Glider measures 3" wide by 1" thick. Please note that modifying a component (such as attaching a plaque or engraving directly into the lumber) will void the warranty for that specific part only. For example, if you attach a plaque to the back slat of a bench or engrave the lumber itself, that specific slat will no longer be eligible for warranty replacement. To ensure a clean and lasting installation: - Use 1/4" to 1/2" wood screws, making sure to account for the thickness of the plaque and lumber, and to check if a metal tube is present where you're installing. - Please avoid placing screws less than 1/4" from any material edge, as this may cause premature cracking. Thanks for asking! Best, Emma
Does the glider have to be put together
Hi Rhonda, thank you for reaching out! The Traditional Garden 48" Glider does require some assembly upon arrival. It does come with all necessary hardware and instructions, and the setup process is designed to be straightforward. If you’d like, I can provide more details about the assembly steps. Please reach out to us if you have any other questions. Best, Miriam
I’m wondering if there is a locking mechanism to prevent the glider from not gliding when not in use. Thanks!
Hi Johnna, thank you for reaching out with your question. This model does not include a locking mechanism to keep the glider from moving when not in use. It is designed to glide freely for comfort and ease of use. If you're placing it in an area where movement may be a concern (such as windy conditions or uneven surfaces), we recommend positioning it on a level surface and considering placement options that help minimize unintended motion. If you have any other questions or would like help finding a product with specific features, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help! Best, Miriam
What is the depth of the seat?
Hi Lynn, thank you for your question! The seat depth of the Traditional Garden 48" Glider is approximately 17.6 inches. Please let us know if you need anything else! Best, Miriam
can the glider sit on lawn or woodchips?
Hello Elizabeth, Thank you for your question! Our gliders are designed to be used on flat surfaces such as decking and concrete. While it is possible to use the gliders on uneven surfaces we would recommend putting a flat surface in between the feet and the surface such as a particle board. Best regards, Clayton
Does Polywood make a cushion for the traditional glider? What size cushion will fit on the glider seat?
Hi Karla! Great question; yes, we have a cushion that we recommend with the Traditional Garden 48" Glider. Here is a link to view all of the colors/patterns in which the cushion is available. https://www.polywood.com/products/bench-seat-cushion-18-5-d-x-43-5-w-x-2-5-h-xpws0012 Thanks, Amber
Is the weight limit only 250lbs?
Hi Alicia, Thank you for your question! The weight capacity for this 2-seat glider is 250 lbs. per seating position, 500 lbs. total. Thanks, Lana
Will the white Polyeood glider turn yellow in the sun?
Hi Jan, Great question! Before our high-density polyethylene plastic and other sustainable materials are pelletized and extruded into lumber, we blend in light-stable pigments with UV inhibitors and stabilizers. This results in fade-resistant colors that look as good as new, even after years of sun, rain, and use. UV stabilizers prevent our poly lumber from dulling and yellowing. Thanks for asking! Lana
Has your manufacturing group addressed the issue of the seat bending?…there were a few write-ups on that issue. Please let me know. Thanks
I was told that it is normal
I have the slate gray glider, but can i paint or stain it a different color? Do you sell beverage holder attachments for the poly gliders?
Hello, We do not recommend painting or staining, as it may not adhere to the material of the furniture. Plus, it would void any warranty that may be on the item. I apologize, we do not have beverage holders available. Thanks for asking, Mindy
Does the black color fade and does it get too hot to sit on if the majority of the time it is in the sun?
Hi Heather, Great question! POLYWOOD products are made from HDPE — short for “high-density polyethylene" plastic which allows it to be all weather and to withstand all four seasons as well as a range of climates such as hot sun, snowy winters, salt spray and high winds. Also, included are UV inhibitors as well as stabilizers to help prevent excessive fading and protect the lumbers against degradation from environmental factors. We've designed POLYWOOD furniture to remain outdoors in all climates, but on hot days in direct sunlight, darker lumber colors readily absorb heat. On hot sunny days, we recommend testing furniture temperature with the back of your hand to make sure it's safe to sit on. We also suggest moving furniture to a shady area or covering it with a suitable outdoor furniture cover. For covers, we recommend thecoverstore.com. Thanks for asking! Lana
Your website states that the weight limit for a 48" glider is 300 pounds. Is that total weight or per person? I am interested in purchasing one but am concerned about the weight limit. My husband is 200lbs. and I am 150lbs so that would mean that we could not sit on this 2 person glider together. Is that correct?
Hi Diane, Thank you for your question! The Traditional Garden 48-inch Glider is weight-tested to 300 lbs. per seating position; 600 lbs. total. Happy shopping! Thanks, Lana
Our Polywood glider has been great for many years but just started to squeak when rocking in it--can you recommend something that might work to help with that? Silicone perhaps? Thanks!
Hello Elizabeth, While we don't have a specific recommendation for fixing the squeak, we'd be happy to review your case. Please contact us through our help center, so we can gather all the necessary information and assist you promptly. We're here to help ensure your glider remains comfortable and enjoyable for many more years!
Is the Traditional Garden 48" Glider considered as a two seat glider or single seat? I see it is rated to 300lbs/seat so I want to know if the 300lbs is x1 or x2 for this glider.
Hello Steve, All POLYWOOD furniture is weight tested using ATSM standards. This glider is weight tested up to 300 pounds per seat, and is designed for two seats, with a total weight of 600 pounds. Thanks, Mindy
Does polywood sell back cushions for this bench? Thanks
Hi Frank, Thank you for your question! We don't have a back cushion available for this glider, but we do sell a Lumbar Pillow. Thanks, Lana
What is weight limit for gliders?
Hi Stephen, Great question! The weight limit for the Traditional Garden 48" Glider is 300 lbs. per seating position, 600 lbs. total. Thanks for asking! Lana
Will the Polywood slate grey fade?
Thank you for your question, Bill! Our Color Stay Technology is our proprietary blend of UV inhibitors that run all the way through each piece of genuine POLYWOOD lumber. This technology protects the color of our furniture over time so the color you fell in love with out of the box is the same color you’ll enjoy for years to come. However, sunlight eventually causes any color to fade and we recommend storing your items when you’re not using them or protecting them with durable covers. Thanks, Lana
We have 9 pieces in the color “Vintage Coffee”. Will this glider be available in that color anytime soon?
Hi Greg, Currently, we do not offer any Gliders in the Vintage finish and are not aware of plans to introduce them in the Vintage finish. Thanks for asking. Best, Lana
I would like to put this in our vegetable garden. THe ground is not perfectly flat like a deck or porch. Will that still be ok? Thank you, Michael.
Hi Michael, Thank you for your question. We recommend our gliders are used on a level surface for optimal performance and safety. Thanks, Lana
One of your sources states that you would need 17 inches behind the glider to not hit the wall; another source says only 6 inches. We have a small porch so I’d need to know before ordering.
Hi Rose, Great question! We're sorry there's conflicting information out there regarding the clearance needed behind the Traditional Garden 48" Glider. I confirmed with our Product Specialist that it's a range of 12" - 18", depending on the type of use the glider will get. If you're simply sitting on the glider and gently gliding 12" of clearance will suffice. If you anticipate some forceful gliding will take place (kids/grandkids), opt for 18" of clearance. Thanks! Lana
