Front Porch Staples

Featured: Country Living Legacy Rocking Chair 3-Piece Set in Green

The Country Living by POLYWOOD Collection was originally inspired by our shared love of front porch living. Sipping iced tea as cicadas sing in the distance. Meeting neighbors and greeting friends. Admiring a sunset’s fleeting beauty. We can all agree that there’s something inherently warm and welcoming about the front porch. These time-honored styles invite you to spend more time enjoying yours.

Rockers

Country Living Rocking Chair
33.75″D x 27.50″W x 47″H
Weight: 38 lbs.
Weight capacity: 350 lbs.
Minimum required space: 6.8’D x 6.3’W

Featured: Country Living Legacy Rocking Chair in White

Country Living Legacy Rocking Chair
33.75″D x 28″W x 45.50″H
Weight: 39 lbs.
Weight capacity: 350 lbs.
Minimum required space: 6.8’D x 6.3’W

Design differences: The Country Living Rocking Chair has round posts and six narrow back slats compared to the Country Living Legacy Rocking Chair’s square posts and three wide back slats.

Considerations: We recommend having 2–3 feet of clearance on all sides of your rockers. This open space allows for easy movement around the area and prevents the chairs from colliding with walls or furniture as you rock.

Additionally, rocking chairs perform best on flat surfaces such as tile or concrete. If your front porch has a brick floor or your patio surface is pea gravel, you may want to consider stationary seating styles like Adirondacks. If you must move, consider the swaying power of a porch swing that’s suspended above the floor.

Country Living Modern Adirondack Chair
31.75″D x 29.25″W x 33.25″H
Weight: 37.25 lbs.
Weight capacity: 350 lbs.
Minimum required space: 5.6’D x 6.4’W

Design differences: These Adirondacks come in two distinct styles: traditional and modern. One design is slightly larger and features a comfortably curved backrest.

Considerations: Adirondack chairs should sit at least two to three feet apart, with three to four feet of space in front of each seat to give family room to stand, sit, and walk by. Also, since these chairs have laid-back designs, getting in or out of these seats may be difficult for those with knee or back issues. Upright designs like rocking chairs or benches may be better suited for you.

Benches & Swings

Featured: Country Living 60″ Swing in White

Country Living 60″ Swing
24.19″D x 60.50″W x 23″H
Weight: 58 lbs.
Weight capacity: 250 lbs. per seat
Minimum required space: 8’D x 7.1’W

Design differences: The garden bench is available in two sizes and sits securely on the ground, while the swing is offered in one size and gets affixed to a ceiling or other support structure.

Considerations: Benches suit lengthy areas like garden paths or long front porches, needing 3 feet of space on each side and a 30-inch distance from walkways. Swings require room to move and a sturdy structure to hold them up. We recommend 3–4 feet to the front and back, with 12–14 inches clearance on each side. If you don’t have room for these pieces, opt for smaller styles like rockers or Adirondack chairs.

Contoured seats provide comfort for extended sitting, and we added footrests to the bar and counter seating for extra support. Classic design details like the back slats and curved top rail bring timeless appeal to every occasion.

Weight: 32.5 lbs.
Weight capacity: 350 lbs.
Minimum required space: 6.2’D x 6.1’W

Considerations: The chairs are available in three heights and with or without arms. The dining-height furniture is a versatile option suited to daily meals and celebratory events alike. For a more casual setup—think happy hours, game nights, and after-swim snacks—look to our taller bar and counter styles. (The added height also helps a space look and feel larger.)

Regardless of height, dining chairs should sit 24–30 inches apart to allow plenty of elbow room, with three feet of space behind them so guests can easily walk by. There should be at least a foot of room between the seat and table so everyone has plenty of legroom during meals. Keeping these guidelines handy will help you when picking the perfect-sized dining set for your home.

Weight: 100.75 lbs.
Weight capacity: 250 lbs. per seat
Minimum required space: 8.75’D x 9.25’W

Considerations: Deep seating frames are generally larger than other seating styles, making them ideal for sprawling decks and spacious verandas. There should be 18–24 inches of space on each side of deep seating furniture so guests can move freely, with at least 3 feet of room to the front and back to allow for easy passage and comfortable sitting.
Narrow balconies or petite patios may benefit more from slender chaise lounges, cozy Adirondacks, or tall bar seats.

Chaise Lounges

Featured: Country Living 3-Piece Chaise Set with Arms and Wheels in White and 16″ Outdoor Throw Pillow in Ocean Teal

There’s nothing like a chaise lounge to put you in staycation mode. Calling to mind mimosas, floppy hats, and shimmering pool views, it promises resort-level relaxation from the privacy of your own backyard.

Designed with adjustable backrests and extensive space to stretch out, these various styles are made for all the ways you lounge. Chaises with arms are a cozy choice if you like to rest your drink or an elbow while you read. Built-in wheels let you chase the sun (or seek some shade). Armless designs are a breeze to get in and out of. For a comfort boost, you can add a coordinating cushion in any of our performance fabrics.

Weight: 55 lbs.
Weight capacity: 350 lbs.
Minimum required space: 10.5’D x 6.25’W

Considerations: Similar in width to Adirondacks and rockers, chaise lounges stand out due to their generous seat lengths. To accommodate them, we suggest 2–3 feet of space on all sides so guests have plenty of room to stand, sit, and walk with ease. If your outdoor space isn’t deep enough to house these chairs, try a deep seating sofa or loveseat that offers ample width so you can still stretch your legs.
