Porch Makeover: Chippendale Glider & Conversational Seating

We had the pleasure of styling a cozy front porch this past month with our Chippendale Collection. The area was very spacious, much wider than most porches, and had a lot of potential to fit several pieces of furniture.

The homeowner shared with us that the front porch is the perfect quiet spot when she wants to read a book and enjoy a cup of coffee. It’s also a favorite gathering place for her family to have snacks and drinks, or even a light dinner outside.

With those ideas in mind, we set out to provide a bit more tabletop space, but still keep the conversational arrangement they’re used to.

The Furniture

Even though you might think of rocking chairs as a front porch staple, we wanted to switch it up a bit while still including a piece with relaxing motion. Our Chippendale Glider was the answer.

With a glider you can sway back and forth like a rocking chair and it seats two. We have a few different glider styles available such as the Classic Adirondack Glider Chair and Traditional Garden 48″ Glider, but we loved the architectural details of the Chippendale back. It was just the right design to bring a bit of texture and interest to the space.

Once we’d decided on the perfect furniture for the space, we developed a design board to help us pull it all together.

Inspiration

Our initial inspiration came from all the foliage surrounding the porch. We wanted to extend that rich green color onto the porch using pillows and a few more plants. Then, we pulled in a soft blue which tied in the house’s darker blue siding. Our Teak lumber felt like the perfect fit with both of those colors, adding a warm wood tone to balance out the cooler greens and blues.

The Final Look

For the final look, we pulled in a rug and a small vase that matched our light blue pillows, a lighter wood tray to contrast the Teak lumber, and a cranberry red blanket. Glass elements and fresh flowers completed the look.

All in all, the homeowner loved her new furniture and the cozy feel of the space! Afterward, we stuck around to enjoy some fruit salsa and homemade iced tea (recipe below).

Easy Fruit Salsa Recipe

Ingredients

  • Kiwis
  • Peaches
  • Strawberries
  • Juice from half a lemon
  • Cinnamon sugar pita chips

Directions

Chop up all fruit into small pieces and mix together with the juice from half a lemon. That’s it! This super simple fruit salsa recipe can be thrown together in a pinch and it’s great for warm days on the porch with a glass of iced tea.

Tip: we made frozen ice cubes with blackberries for our homemade iced tea. It kept the blackberries from sinking to the bottom of our tea!
