Coffee tables come in many heights but are typically between 12–24 inches tall. Because seating styles range from low-profile ottomans to taller sectionals and chairs, coffee table heights also vary greatly. So how do you choose to correct dimensions? It will ultimately depend on your sofa or seating arrangement.
First and foremost, you should be able to comfortably place and pick up objects while seated. As such, a standard practice is to have the tabletop 2 inches lower than the seat height. You’ll also want to consider if it will double as a footrest, board game surface, or some other purpose—and make sure it’s not too high or too low for use.
