CONCIOUSLY CRAFTED
POLYWOOD Recycling Center
We take great strides to divert plastics from landfills and oceans. Our facilities recycle millions of containers annually—plus furniture returns and 99% of production scrap are reprocessed into lumber once again, giving them another chance to shine.
Our Recycling Process
Step One:
First, containers arrive at our recycling plant bundled in large bales. The flattened containers are sent up a conveyor to a giant shredder to be pre-shredded.
Step Two:
Next, the shredded container flakes are pre-washed and any heavy materials that might have gotten mixed in (glass, rocks, etc.) are removed.
Step Three:
The cleaned and sorted material is then finely ground into a 1/2” flake and sent to a float tank where any other non-plastic items will sink out of the mix. The flakes are then dried and air separated.
Step Four:
Our Re/New Crew recovers furniture returns and 99% of production scrap material to reprocess back into lumber.
Step Five:
The final product is loads of clear pellets that are ready to be made into genuine POLYWOOD lumber!

We collaborate with Costco and other national brands to fight plastic pollution together. For example, various Costcos across the Midwest collect used containers, sending them directly to us to be recycled and made into POLYWOOD furniture.
PROTECTING OUR NATIONAL FORESTS
POLYWOOD's mission of stewardship is at the heart of everything we do. We're proud to work with the National Forest Foundation to plant a tree for every team member at POLYWOOD—just as you grow with us, so does your tree.

POLYWOOD is proud to be the official bench partner for Sammie's Buddy Bench Project, inspiring younger generations to recycle in a fun, interactive way while forming friendships. When they recycle, their school or group can receive their own Buddy Bench. Win-win!
