What Is POLYWOOD Made From?
Genuine POLYWOOD lumber is made from recycled and reusable high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic. HDPE is safe, durable, weather-resistant, and easy to clean—the perfect outdoor furniture material. Learn more about our recycling process.
The vibrant color you see on the lumber's surface is not a veneer—it runs all the way through the material. Before transforming HDPE into lumber, we blend UV inhibitors, pigments, and other protective compounds with the plastic. Not only does this fully saturate the lumber with rich hues, but it also ensures long-lasting color that stays bright and vibrant year after year.

POLYWOOD FAQs
We reuse 99% of all production scraps, sending them back to our recycling plant to be remade into new lumber.
High-density polyethylene is a highly durable and reusable plastic used in a variety of everyday items, from laundry detergent bottles to decking.
Our lumber contains UV-inhibiting pigment systems that keep our colors vibrant and fade-resistant for years to come.
POLYWOOD lumber should not be sanded as it will scratch the material's surface and void the warranty.
Our lumber only contains HDPE plastic, UV inhibitors, pigments, and other protective compounds.
Yes, we mix light-stable pigments, UV inhibitors, and other protectants with the HDPE plastic before turning it into lumber, so the color you see on the surface is thoroughly blended throughout the material.
POLYWOOD lumber colors run continuously throughout the material, so no painting is required. We do not recommend painting your furniture as this will void the warranty.
