I’m interested in the black color. It would be on an uncovered patio. We live in the Midwest so it gets very hot in summers. Will the material burn your bottom if it’s uncovered and you sit on it?

Hi Karen! Great question! POLYWOOD furniture is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which is designed to withstand sun and heat without splintering, cracking, or fading. Like any material left in direct sunlight — including wood and aluminum — POLYWOOD can become hot to the touch in very sunny conditions, but it won’t burn your skin. If you live in a hot or arid region, using cushions and umbrellas for shade, protective covers when not in use, and lighter lumber and fabric colors can help keep the furniture cooler and more comfortable. It looks like the bench is attached to the table. Can the table be not attached to the table?

However, we highly recommend checking out TheCoverStore.com, which offers a wide variety of quality covers that should fit most of our furniture pieces. While we aren't partnered with them, many of our customers have had great experiences finding covers that work perfectly with our products. The chairs also cannot be stacked.

Does the slate grey get hit in the sun

Hey Sherri, That is a good question. POLYWOOD furniture is designed to remain outdoors in all climates. However, on very hot, sunny days some of our darker lumber colors will absorb heat more readily if they are placed in the direct sunlight. We always recommend that our customers test the temperature of their furniture with the back of their hand on these hot days to ensure they are safe to sit on, but we also suggest moving the furniture to a shady area or covering the furniture with a suitable outdoor furniture cover.
