Measure Twice, Buy Once
Before you order any outdoor furniture, make sure you have enough room in the space you plan to use. All you need is a pencil, some paper, measuring tape, and a little time.
Make a rough sketch of your floor plan and note the measurements between all infrastructure (your house, sheds, walkways, etc.) and natural elements (trees, ponds, herb gardens, etc.) After double-checking your dimensions, make a final sketch on graph paper and circle any usable space.

How many people can I seat with a seven-piece dining set?
You can comfortably seat six people. Depending on the chair styles, you could potentially fit more—but it might be a tight squeeze. Use chairs without arms instead of, say, swivel dining chairs with arms to make more room. Another option is placing benches on the longer sides of your rectangular table to hold three guests each, adding two more seats.
How much space do I need for an outdoor dining set?
A general rule is to find the dimensions and then add three feet to all sides. These extra 36 inches allow friends to push back their dining chairs and walk around with ease.
What size rug do I need for a seven-piece outdoor dining set?
An 8-by-10 or 9-by-12-foot area rug usually works for a rectangular seven-piece dining set. Look for 8-by-8 or 10-by-10-foot area rugs for square and round styles. You want about 18 to 24 inches of free space on all sides so chairs can be pulled out and pushed while remaining on the rug. Does cast aluminum rust?
